Review of Open University as a Student Study Resource

Today, I would like to share with you an online learning resource that is more of a universe than just a learning platform. I still haven’t gotten my mind around exactly what it’s capable of~ so much reading! so much valuable information and software to share!!!
So to begin at the beginning….
The Open University [Online] based in the UK can be found at www.open.ac.uk
The entire site~ beware, it is huge!!! is comprised of free learning resources.
Tutorials, or Units, are self based and range from 2 to 50 hours in length. Trust me, there is something here for every adult student.
Once you are registered and logged in, you are able to access your Personal Profile by clicking on your Name in the upper right of the screen.
From here you can Edit your Profile, see a list of your Forum contributions or track your other site Activity, such as Units (Tutorials) that you are doing or have completed.
Also in the upper right of the screen, next to your Name, is a link to My Learning Space~ click here.
From the Topics list in the left margin you can choose Units/tutorials you wish to take. You can select now and complete them later which is great, as you don’t have to do them all at once~ phew!
There are also Learning Clubs that you can join, or create ones of your own. I started the Statistics Learning Club (LC_53) ~ come join us
When you click on a Unit (Tutorial) you are taken to a page that presents the contents of the Unit in the central screen. And to the left are an assortment of Learning Tools, including a Learning Journal.
The Journal is your blog that focuses on the learning you are doing at the moment. To read about the direct learning benefits of using a Journal as a Student, visit my posts on Reflective Essays at www.psitutor.org
Explore the other Tools yourself~ they are fun!!!
Share with me your experiences of using the Open Learning space…?
Visit Student of Fortune for help with notes and lecture outlines
