Time Management Brief
In the article What Really Matters by Lynne M. Thompson, she talks about why she can’t get organized instead of how to use different tools such as a palm pilot to get organized.
What does structure have to do with time?
One of the major points of her article is not being aware that there are actual time limits to doing things. Also, that once you run out of time to do something you might not be able to complete what you need to do. She also explains that if, as a child, a person didn’t have structure, then as an adult they might not be able to live by the clock.
Why can’t someone say No?
Another issue that affects someone’s lack of time management is when he or she can’t say “No” to another person’s request. For example, a person may accept more work tasks to improve their self-esteem. Alternatively, accepting more work tasks might allow them to be a people-pleaser, as they may hate to make another person mad.
How does a person prioritize?
What is the difference between an important task and an urgent task? This is a significant dilemma because for a lot of the time people will focus on the things that they feel that they need to do right now. As such, they procrastinate about the things that are truly important, and that need to be done. For example, just because a person need’s to get some stamps to pay a bill, doesn’t mean that they can drive with their gas tank on empty. The stamp is an urgent task, however, purchasing gas is the important task. Therefore buying gas should be prioritized above buying stamps. .
