In haiku there is no failure, just an opportunity to learn a little more.

~ My haiku instructor

As in life, and this includes studies, there is no failure, simply more learning moments.  I remember my second year of statistics I completely failed a critical exam~ the lowest grade in the class. How pride denting as I was tutoring students in the subject! My mind was elsewhere during the exam~ many things going on in life, I was distracted.  I’m over it now ~:-) It is an experience that showed me I need to learn to deal with stress in a different way to what I was doing at that time.  And it has been a key experience to share with the students I tutor who are struggling with stats~ if I can get through something like that, and go on to tutor at the uni and in my business, how devastating could not passing one exam be?

In the hopes of reaching the moon, men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet.

~Albert Schweitzer

Constantly I am reminding students to be aware of the goals they are kicking and the responsibilities they are meeting. We can get in our own road when we ignore the achievements and resources that we do have.

Arguing with a fool proves there are two.

~ Doris Smith

There are times when lecturers, tutors or student colleagues may take an elitist/biased attitude. Accept that it is their right to choose to be this way at this moment. Be flattered that they want to focus so much of their attention in this short life on you. Be aware that you are merely the scapegoat for issues they do not have the fortitude to face within themselves at this moment. I found that being polite and patient, not rising to the bait, and avoiding certain peoples company did not lessen my being targeted, but did aid me to walk my talk to not be ruled by my emotions.

Hope is the dream of a [person] awake.

~ French Proverb

When we stop believing in Hope we really have put ourselves in the road of our goals. Hope will keep us motivated to find ways to keep on going. Some will interpret your Hope as arrogance~ that is their baggage to carry. It is an opportunity to cultivate patience and acceptance of other’s chosen states of being. As a student I maintained Hope that I would complete my degree and be able to contribute to my community whilst having a sustainable lifestyle for myself. I am truly blessed as I am now living my dreams.

Obstacles are great incentives.

~ Jules Michelet

Aum! Keep on going, keep moving, do something. When I find myself in times of stress, inevitably my computer will start to have issues too or something will go awry to add to my load, I go outside to walk and have a break from things. I then find something that I can do at this moment~ wash my pets, trim back the garden, declutter or downsize my home, organise my bookshelf or computer files etc. As a student you will normally be pressed for time, sometimes though taking time out for 20 mins or an hours or so will create more time for you, because you are not getting in your own road anymore.

What are some words for you to live by?
